Volunteers needed for Butler Basketball games

Butler SportsLast year was another great year for the Butler Bulldogs at at the newly renovated and historic Hinkle Fieldhouse.

I WANT IN THE GAME!!! (Sign me up!)

One of our agreements with Butler University for the year round use of Hinkle Fieldhouse is for our club to check tickets using ticket scanners during the men's basketball home games. The job is easy. You scan the tickets as people walk through the door. We need 12 volunteers age 18 or older from 2 hours before game time until halftime. You can then watch the second half of each game for free.

Important: All volunteers must enter at gate 4 with a personal ID. Security will verify your name on the volunteer list. If you're not on the list, you will not be getting into the fieldhouse due to Homeland Security related rules. We will then meet behind the Butler Team bench.

We are happy to have two different incentives again this season:

1. Volunteers who are Indy Runner members receive a $5 gift card from one of our retail partners (Athletic Annex, The Runners Forum) for each game worked.

2. Volunteers who are Indy Runner members may agree in advance to work five of the home games this basketball season. Let us know which five games you would like to work. At the end of the season, you will receive a check from Indy Runners for $50 if you work each of your requested games! Game requests are expected to go fast this year - get your five games reserved early!

Important:  You cannot receive both incentives for a single game.

The Frequently Asked Questions list at the end of this page will answer many of the questions you might have. To sign up for a game or for more information, please email Tom or call him at (317)777-2571.

NOTE: All games are now filled for the 2016-2017 season! Thank you very much!!!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Where do we meet on game day?
A: Once you enter gate 4 and have your ID checked by security, we will meet behind the Butler Team bench.

Q: What should I bring?
A: Please bring a personal ID as security will check it and ensure that you are on the official volunteer list. If you don't have ID or are not on the list, you will not be getting into the fieldhouse.
Q: When should I be there?

A: Two hours before game time. Please be on time. The 7:00PM Weekday games with an arrival time of 5:00PM is sometimes a challenge withe traffic and parking. Please communicate if you think you will be arriving past 5:20PM.

Q: Must volunteers be at least 18 years old?

A: Yes. This requirement is from Butler.

Q:  Where do I park?
A: The parking lot in front of Hinkle Fieldhouse is for use only by season ticket holders. Free parking is available along the residential streets to the south of the fieldhouse. Just remember to avoid parking next to a "no parking" sign, next to a fire hydrant, behind a driveway, etc. Give yourself 10 minutes to park and walk to the fieldhouse.

Q: What does ticket-checking involve?
A: A Butler representative will explain the procedure. It's fairly simple. You stand at your assigned gate and check tickets using a ticket scanner. There are typically at least two volunteers at each gate, with at least one experienced ticket taker at the gate.

Q: Do I have to be an Indy Runner to check tickets?
A: Not at all. We welcome any and all help meeting the minimum age requirement as Indy Runners is strictly a volunteer-run organization.

Q: What if I sign up in advance to work five games but find out later that I won't be able to work one of the games?
A: Please let the point of contact know as soon as possible, preferably at least 48 hours in advance so that we can find a substitute. If you sign up for a game, it's important that you be there.

Q: After doing a game for a $5 gift card, can I also volunteer in advance to do five more games and get $50 at
the end of the season for those games?

A: Yes, you may. The point of the $50 incentive is to help find a group of dependable volunteers who are willing to work several games. It is tough to find enough volunteers to cover every game, and the $50 incentive helps alleviate this.

Q: What if I sign up in advance to work five games but forget to show up for a game or show up late for it?
A: We're sorry, but you will not be receiving the $50 incentive, although we appreciate your volunteering. The $50 incentive is to reward those dependable volunteers who fully cover their assigned games.

Q: What happens if I volunteer to do five games but in the end am only able to work four games during the season?

A: We're sorry, but you will not be receiving the $50 incentive.

Q: How do I get my $5 gift card?

A: An Indy Runners representative will give you a gift card when you're done working your game (halftime).

Q: How do I get my $50 check?
A: $50 checks will be sent out following the last regular season game to those people who signed up in advance to work five games, were on time for each assigned game, and worked each of their games. You are also welcome to work more than five games if you like. We always appreciate the help.

Q: What if I still have questions?

A: You may email Tom or call him at (317)777-2571.
