The Top Ten (or so) Good/Bad Things About Winter Running in Indiana

- I get to listen to Dave Sparks and Mark Doctor moan and groan about how cold and miserable they are
- It's easier to get a parking space in the 56th Street lot at Eagle Creek.
- You can't get lost on the trails because you can follow you foot prints back.
- Mark Renholzberger won't run during bad weather so you don't have to listen to him discuss politics.
- I've got my boss convinced that I have to leave work early so I can get my run in while there is still some daylight.
- Miss running at 5:30AM with the sun rising!
- Now the sun comes up in my coffee cup!
- It is dark when I leave for work and when I return - forced to run at CHS track or other off road area - miss playing in the street! :-(
- Looking for inside running location - CHS gym is construction zone and prefer running without hard hat.
- Now check my calendar for full moon, weatherman for wind speed & temp. (then plan run location)
- I'm too slow to run on icy or snow covered roads and avoid sliding out of control vehicles.
- Had to grow beard to keep face warm.
- Miss running in tee shirt & shorts.
- There are halos around all the street lights
- Only thing you can hear are your own footsteps
- You take in a deep breath and it tastes good, because it's so cold, but you're all warm inside
- Running in fresh snow with huge flakes falling silently around you
- The beautiful silence from a nice snow covering
- Ice much easier on shoe wear than pavement
- Gortex! Gortex! Gortex!
- Less Vaseline on inner thighs, more on lips and cheeks
- That odd baby-step stride you fall into when surprised by a patch of ice
- No problem finding ice for ankles turned in frozen tire ruts
- Frozen sweat doesn't stick!
- On a good clean snow, traffic lights alone make it not only light enough to run, but bright enough to read
- Low humidity
- Frost on mask adds interesting twist to VO2Max workouts
- Hard to breathe when your nostrils are frozen shut
- Spit bounces off the pavement
- Heat Stroke? Not a problem
- Can add 1/2mile to my normal route by avoiding potholes
- Hey, its only 3 months!
