13th “Run the Monon” Event is Saturday, October 14, 2023

Indy Runners and Walkers – Long Run/Walk & Picnic

Back to our Carmel to Downtown Indy Version

Join us for our favorite long run of the year, “Run the Monon”! Last year we enjoyed exploring the northernmost section from Sheridan down through Carmel to Marrott Park in Broad Ripple. This year we’ll be back to our traditional Carmel to downtown Indianapolis version, with lunch on the north end of the downtown canal walk afterward.

There are two available distances: 20 miles and 12 miles (our new ending spot on the north end of the canal allows for more distance for our half marathon folks and better aligns with those training plans).

We’ll park downtown and bus up to either 146th Street in Carmel (for 20-milers) or Marrott Park in Broad Ripple (for 12-milers). Then run/walk all the way back downtown and finish on the downtown canal walk with lunch and camaraderie afterward leading into the Monumental Marathon/Half Marathon two weeks later.

Note: This is NOT a race – it is untimed and no traffic restrictions are in place – but rather a unique chance to get in a long training run with a group of friends and enjoy a fun route. Then relax with lunch afterward.

Registration

Sign me up!

Regular registration must be completed by October 12, 2023.

If there is still room on the buses, we will likely offer on-site registration through RunSignUp the day of the event. In that case, the price will stay the same, but lunch will not be provided to these on-site registrants. (We have to order the lunches in advance.)

Back For 2023 – Optional Shirt!

Optional Run The Monon Shirt

We are making OPTIONAL shirts available for purchase. For only $15, you can purchase a technical short sleeve Run the Monon Indy Runners t-shirt while registering for the event.  The shirts will be available for pick-up at Run the Monon if purchased by Sunday, October 1 at 11:59pm.

Volunteers

We need a handful of folks to help us staff a couple water stops along the route. If you are already tapering for your race (or maybe coming back from an injury), or raced already, it’s definitely a fun time seeing everyone and volunteering to help. Lunch is then on us for our volunteers!

Please write to Brian Schuetter at medical@indyrunners.org to let him know you can help out. Thanks in advance!
