Generation Awakening, a local, Orange County based nonprofit organization, is hosting its inaugural 5K run, Race Against Extinction, to raise funds for several local and international conservation and wildlife organizations. This community event will be held on Huntington Beach, Saturday, May 19th.
The Race Against Extinction 5K is a family friendly event where people of all ages can run or walk on sand and through a fun obstacle course in Huntington Beach. The racers will compete in various contests and win prizes. Immediately preceding the race, a complimentary warm-up yoga class will be held on the beach for all participating runners ($10 for non-participants that want to join for yoga only) from 7:30-8:30am. Registration will close at 9am as the race begins. Kids, families, and runners with dogs or strollers will have a 9:15am start. Leashed, friendly dogs as well as strollers are welcome, but must use the paved multi-use trail. As the race concludes, participants will enjoy live music, a silent auction, food trucks, including shave ice from The Haole Boys Shave Ice Truck, delicious açaí bowls from The Açaí Tribe, and interactive booths from local vendors. Mutt Hut Rescue will be at the event holding adoptions for participants to adopt a new best friend.
